Announcing APPE and SenderMemory - Additional new features to no.Spam.domino to help you manage unwanted e-mail.

no.Spam.domino introduces two new features to help manage your e-mail flow. APPE is a new mail rule which accurately detects mail with spam-like patterns. SenderMemory is a way to remember the users you are sending messages to (at a server level) and to allow those users to send back to you with reduced Spam checks - kind of an automated whitelist.

APPE is a no.Spam.domino mail rule which is able to find common patterns in Spam messages and take an action on those messages. Most, if not all, of the Spam you see is mass-produced and spammers use mail templates to construct the messages. Changes are made to some aspects of each message in an attempt to make each one unique. This is done to fool basic checksum tests and poor bayesian filters. APPE looks through the changes and sees the template pattern that was used to create the message. APPE 'learns' from the masses of e-mail that DRCC collects every day and adjusts the probability of a certain pattern appearing in a Spam message accordingly. All you need to use APPE is a very small database which is replicated with DRCC and a mail rule. In testing, APPE has proven to be more than 90% accurate in detecting unwanted messages.

SenderMemory
It's almost certainly true that if you send a message to someone you'll want to receive an answer, well except if you just love to send messages back to spammers that is. SenderMemory provides a way to remember who mail is sent to and to allow future messages from those senders to be handled differently from the bulk of the mail your receive. SenderMemory is a set of two no.Spam.domino mail rules. One rule runs on all outbound mail and adds the recipient address to the senderMemory cache. The other rule checks all inbound messages against the cache and takes an action if there is a match.

You can decide exactly how to handle a match against your senderMemory. perhaps to deliver the message straight away or just give the message a head-start through your rules by setting it's Spam score to an initially low value like -50.

SenderMemory can help to reduce the amount of mail that other mail rules must run on because it removes the need to do comprehensive scanning on a large amount of the mail that normally flows in and out of your company. A large percentage of your daily mail will be between the same parties. SenderMemory helps by fast-tracking this e-mail. We realize that there may be some recipients or some messages that you send that should not be added to senderMemory (Out of office or non-delivery reports replies for example) so the rule has exception options to allow for this.

SenderMemory is also free if you already have a monthly subscription to Rules+ or just US$19.99 a month if you do not. Either option will cover all the users that use the server so it's an inexpensive way to enhance your mail protection. If you have a one-time upgrade to Rules+ we can easily change it to a monthly subscription and arrange the senderMemory option for you.
