Over the last week we've made a number of mail rule improvements, especially in the area of CPU and memory requirements. If you're an r6 customer using no.Spam.domino's Bayesian rule you will want to take particular note.

General rule improvements
We've made a few improvements to make your r6 mail rules run faster and with less server overhead. All users will benefit from refreshing their mail rules to take advantage of the new features. Once you're no.Spam.domino Working Copy is refreshed to the latest design level simply edit and re-save your rules to upgrade them or use the Refresh Selected Rules action to do it automatically.

Bayesian rule - Lowered CPU requirement
The Bayesian mail rule has been improved so it requires much less CPU time to process each mail item. If you're using this rule we suggest that you edit and re-save it to update it.

Dynamic Rules - Cache option
If you're using Dynamic Rules for handling such things as Black and Whitelists, you may benefit from the ability to cache your lookup lists in the server at server startup rather than reading them each time a mail rule is processed. You'll find an option to enable your Dynamic Rule Cache in the 'Additional Options' section of the mail rule form. There is a memory overhead when using the cache but you might find the performance improvement is worth it.

Also...

Default Ruleset Wizard
Under the Rules menu in your Actions there is a new option to create a default set of basic mail rules - including black and white lists. If you're new to mail rules, this option will create a basic set of structured rules to get you going fast!

Compacting conflicts
If you're using Dynamic Rules or the Bayesian mail rule you might want to edit your servers notes.ini file to change the automatic nightly compact option to use the "-c and -L" options. This will help to avoid conflicts between the mail router, the compact task and your no.Spam.domino database. Edit the line so it looks more like this: ServerTasksAt2=compact -c -L
(small c, BIG L)
