Quarantine - Letting users manage their own Spam
DRCC is pleased to announce the availability of personal web based Quarantine for no.Spam.java.
Quarantine makes it possible for each user to hold any messages they consider might be spam for later review. Mail messages can be redirected to the user quarantine either by a global action or at the direction of each user via their personal spam settings. Messages are stored in the quarantine until the user releases a message for deliver or purges the message. A global purge option can be set to limit the amount of time that messages can be held in the quarantine and to free up disk space on the quarantine server.
Each user can choose to have a quarantine summary (message digest) sent to them periodically which lists the messages that are currently held in their quarantine space. Individual messages can be releases for delivery or purged directly from the digest mail or it can be used to quickly log into the web based quarantine.
There are a number of primary benefits to using quarantine:
1. Infrastructure savings
By holding mail early in the delivery process quarantine saves your infrastructure by preventing the waste of resources. If you have 50% spam you also have 50% wasted resources - disk, network bandwidth and cpu. By stopping spam early you can get back the 50% of resources which were previously wasted, boosting performance of your existing mail system and possibly delaying the need to invest heavily to deal with unwanted mail. If youre present e-mail system is having trouble dealing with the spam load, quarantine might be just what you need.
2. Lower administration cost
Allowing users to manage their own messages removes the need for your e-mail administrator to deal with the problem for them and gives them more time to deal with the bigger issue. Users can manage their own allow and deny lists with no.Spam.java via the web interface and can not only allow or reject mail based on the sender but also based on words in the subject or body text.
3.More personal control
Users can decide what is and isn't Spam according to their own requirements, and deal with it accordingly. That gives control of e-mail back to the users. Of course you can still apply global rules to e-mail and decide at a very fine level what control users actually have but the flexibility of nsj means that whatever way you choose to manage the issue, you're able to do it effectively and without making more investments.
