New Features: Query/Response system and Bayesian auto-leaning

no.Spam.java now includes a query/response system to help you determine all people you want to correspond with and block all the rest. A Query/Response system (QR system) or also known as a challenge/response system issues a small e-mail query to anyone who sends you mail. The sender is asked to reply to the response mail leaving the subject intact. nsj will detect the response and release the original message as well as optionally whitelisting the sender so that future messages don't get held up. Since most spam mails have forged or spoofed addresses, no one will respond to the requests sent for these messages and they will be never be released.

It's possible to achieve 100% spam control using a query/response system. Only authorized senders will be able to mail you and of course any spammer who does reply can simply be removed from your whitelist.

The query/response system does add a small delay to the first message but all future messages from the same sender are allowed through. Opinions vary about such systems but generally the results are excellent. If you begin by whitelisting most of the people you regularly mail with the effect will be minimized. Even auto-generated mail messages such as new services can be allowed through the QR system by whitelisting some subject or body words from those messages. You'll still get all the news and information messages you subscribe to.

There's a lot of press, both good and bad, about challenge/response systems. Checking your favorite search engine "challenge/response" will surely bring up enough hits to keep you very well informed. For some company's this type of Spam protection may not be appropriate but if you do decide to use it, nsj offers a flexible and easy approach by allowing only certain messages to be sent to the QR system, perhaps only the most suspect.

Bayesian auto learning

The bayesian filter system has been further improved to automatically learn from your mailflow. Every hour, nsj will evaluate messages that are placed into a good and bad message queue by certain filters and then use the information in these messages to update the filter, thus making it more accurate and relevant to your mailflow. Setting up the learning system is quick and easy and once setup it will continue to learn as long as message continue to flow through nsj.

To use either of these new features, please contact DRCC for the latest software update and relevant configuration settings. We'll be happy to assist you. Neither of these new features costs you any more - it's all included in the standard nsj license fee making nsj even better value for money.
